About Tatau Fit

Welcome to Tatau Fit.

My name is Nise, and I am a proud 49-year-old Samoan woman, born in Samoa, raised in New Zealand and fortunate to call Sydney Australia home for the past 30 years.

My life has been shaped by family, culture, sport and resilience. As a full-time working mum, athlete and proud Samoan woman, I have always believed in the power of determination, discipline and staying active.

Sport has played a significant role throughout my life.  As a player, coach and manager of numerous sports netball, basketball and rugby union and rugby league.  I have represented Australia in rugby league and was a member of the first unofficial NSW Women's Rugby League Team that played a test match against the New Zealand Women's Rugby League Team in 1995, helping pave the way for future generations of women in the sport.  I also had the honour and privilege of serving as Team Manager for the Samoan National Netball Team in 2017-2019.

My passion for sport continues today.  Last year, at 48 years of age, I proudly captained my team to a Grand Final victory in the Metro Open Women's Silver Division Rugby League competition for Chipping Norton Kangaroos Open Women's Team.  This achievement reminded me that age should never define what we are capable of achieving when we remain committed to our goals, health and wellbeing.

Why Tatau Fit?

Tatau Fit was born from a lifelong passion for fitness and a deep pride in my Polynesian heritage.  For many years, I proudly wore activewear purchased from Samoa and even customised my own gym tights with Polynesian-inspired designs.  Whenever I trained, people would stop me to ask where they could buy them.  That simple question planted the seed for what would eventually become Tatau Fit.

I created Tatau Fit to celebrate our culture through activewear that empowers people to move with confidence, strength and pride.  My designs are inspired by traditional Polynesian patterns and storytelling, reflecting the values of family, identity, courage and resilience that are deeply rooted in our culture.

Tatau Fit is more than activewear.  It is a celebration of my heritage, my journeys and our strength as Pacific people.  Whether you are an athlete, a busy parent, a fitness enthusiast, or someone beginning their wellness journey, our goal is to help you feel proud of who you are while pursuing your personal best.

The Meaning Behind the Name Tatau?

Tatau is the Samoan word for tattoo — a deeply sacred art form rooted in Polynesian culture and identity.  Traditional tattoos hold profound meaning: for women, the Malu is a symbol of femininity, grace and protection.  For men, the Pe'a represents strength, courage and cultural pride.

By carrying this name, Tatau Fit honours that heritage — celebrating the marks that define us, the stories we carry and the strength we wear every day.  Every design represents a story.  Every piece is created with purpose.  Every customer becomes part of the Tatau Fit family.

Thank you for joining us on this journey as we honour our culture, embrace healthy living, and inspire the next generation to wear their heritage with pride.
